On February 4th, 2016, the National Prayer Breakfast will take place at the Washington Hilton, across the street from our Dupont Circle Bed and Breakfast. The name is a slight misnomer, as this 63rd annual event will include a series of meetings, luncheons and dinners. The event is organized by The Fellowship Foundation, however it is hosted by members of the United States Congress. The breakfast itself is expected to have over 3,500 people, pulling from all 50 states and over 140 countries in participation. People of all different religious backgrounds are encouraged to attend and celebrate the concept of faith.
While on the surface the event may appear to be primarily religious in nature, this is also known to be a heavily politicized event. Political, social and business elite come together to discuss the current political climate and share a moment of spirituality. All of the big name politicians will be in attendance, especially the President of the United States.
In the current political climate, it is interesting to look back on the 2015 National Prayer Breakfast to see Dr. Ben Carson, a current presidential candidate, speaking on the same panel as President Obama. Check out the C-SPAN footage below…
