Walking Directions from Dupont Circle Metro Station (Red Line)

(Half Mile – about 10 minutes’ walk)

• Inside the DuPont Circle Metro Station, follow Exit signs to “Q” Street North.
• Once at the top of the stairway, go North on Connecticut Avenue.
• Take a slight right on Columbia Rd NW (Connecticut Avenue continues on the Left).
• American Guest House will be on your left at 2005 Columbia Road, NW. Look for the blue awning.

Directions from Union Station by Metro

• Take the Red Line towards Shady Grove.
• Get off at DuPont Circle Station (fifth stop).
• From the DuPont Circle Metro Station, follow Exit signs to “Q” Street
• Once at the top of the stairway, go North on Connecticut Avenue.
• Go straight on Connecticut Avenue, keeping to the right side of the street.
• Columbia Road forks to the right by the Washington Hilton, where Connecticut Avenue continues on the Left.
• American Guest House is at 2005 on the left, with the blue awning.

Note for those walking from the Dupont Circle Metro: Columbia Rd NW is on a slight incline. If your luggage is on the heavier side, you may want to take the bus (the bus 42 stops right outside the guest house!) or a 3-minute taxi or Uber instead of walking.

There is no parking at the inn and parking on the street is limited to residents and a few others to 2 hours since it is a residential neighborhood, except on weekends, Friday from 8:30 pm to Monday morning from 7 am. Please read the parking signs, so you do not receive a ticket and/or get towed away.

To secure the best parking location and rates, we strongly suggest you reserve parking in advance. Some locations don’t provide IN/OUT privileges, don’t have attendants on-site, can not accommodate larger cars, and are not open 24/7.  Please call the garage before making a reservation.

By Car:

• Take Dulles Toll Road to I-66 East to Washington.
• Cross over the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge.
• Exit off Constitution Avenue.
• Continue on Constitution Avenue for 6 blocks
• Make a left turn onto 17th Street.
• 17th Street will become Connecticut Avenue.
• Continue on Connecticut Avenue for almost 1 mile
• Bear Right onto Columbia Road by the Washington Hilton.
• American Guest House, a DC Lodging, is at 2005 on the Left with the blue awning.

By Metro (subway):

• Silver Line
  Use Metro’s Silver Line at Washington Dulles International Airport Metrorail Station. The underground path is approximately five minutes from the terminal to the station, with moving sidewalks and escalators to help you on your way.
• Transfer to the Red Line Metro toward Shady Grove.
• Get off at the DuPont Circle Metro Station (2nd stop).
• Take the Q Street Exit towards, North, Zoo
• Take the escalator up and walk right on Q Street, then turn left on Connecticut Ave NW.
• Once on Connecticut Ave, stay on the right, and pass the Washington Hilton on your right.  Keep walking up and you’ll end up on Columbia Rd NW
• American Guest House is at 2005 on the left, with the blue awning.

Taxi, Uber & Lyft

This is, of course, a faster option and there is plenty of taxi waiting at the airport. With favorable traffic, the trip will take about 45 minutes and cost about $60-$70.  You may want to consider taking an Uber or Lyft instead, their rates vary from $30 to $60.  Tell the driver that the American Guest House is located near the Washington Hilton hotel in Dupont Circle.

By Metro:

• Take the Yellow Line from the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
• Metro Station towards U Street Cardozo.
• At the Gallery Place/Chinatown Metro Station, transfer to the Red Line, toward Shady Grove.
• Get off at DuPont Circle Station (third stop).
• Take the Q Street Exit towards North, Zoo.
• Walk North on Connecticut Ave for about 5 blocks.
• Bear right towards Columbia Road, NW by the Washington Hilton.
• American Guest House is on the left, with the blue awning.

By Car – 5 mi (13 min)

• Start going toward the Airport Exit – go 0.6 mi
• Take George Washington Memorial Pkwy N toward Washington DC – go 1.1 mi
• Take the I-395 N exit toward Downtown – go 0.6 mi
• Take left fork onto US-1 N toward Downtown – go 1.1 mi
• Continue on US-1 (14th St NW) – go 0.9 mi
• Turn left onto Massachusetts at Thomas Cir NW – go 0.6 mi
• Turn right onto Connecticut Ave NW at DuPont Cir NW – go 0.5 mi
• Bear right on Columbia Rd NW – go 0.1 mi

By Train:

Take the free shuttle from BWI to the train station. Take Amtrak or Marc Train from BWI to Union Station. Marc Train is the cheapest at $6 one way.

By Express Bus/Metro:

BWI Express Metro bus service between BWI and the Greenbelt metro station. The BWI Express/B30 bus service runs every 40 minutes, 7 days a week to the Greenbelt Metro Station. For more information call 202-637-7000 or go to www.wmata.com.

There are two WMATA Bus Stops at BWI, one is on the lower level of the International Concourse and the other stop is located on the lower level of Concourse A/B. The B30 will pick you up outside at the bus shelter. Follow the signs that say “Public Transit.”

From Greenbelt metro station take Green Line to Union Station.

• Take Exit 33, Connecticut Avenue South.
• Continue on Connecticut Avenue for about 7.5 miles.
• Turn left onto Wyoming Ave.
• Go 1 block, turn right onto Columbia Road.
• Go half a block to 2005 Columbia Road.

From Richmond

• Take I-95 North to I-395 North to route 1 (14th Street Bridge).
• Follow 14th Street for 1 mile.
• Turn left onto K Street.
• Continue on K Street for 5 blocks.
• Turn right onto Connecticut Avenue.
• Follow Connecticut Avenue for almost 1 mile.
• Bear right onto Columbia Road by the Washington Hilton.
