The National Archives in Washington DC

The National Archives Experience contains the original Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights. These important historical documents are housed in the Rotunda for the Charters of Freedom, the Public Vaults permanent exhibit gallery, the Lawrence F. O’Brien temporary exhibit gallery,  the Boeing Learning Center, and the William G. McGowan Theater. Spring through late summer is peak tourism season in DC, and masses flock to see the Charters of Freedom while they are visiting the Nation’s Capital.

The National Archives are open seven days a week except Thanksgiving and December 25th. The archives are open from 10am to 7pm daily during  Spring and Summer. Reserved passes are not required for free admission, but it may be a good idea to reserve passes if you are visiting during Washington, DC’s peak season. Guided tours are also available.

The National Archives are accessible by the Gallery Place/Chinatown metro station serviced by the red line. The Archives are less than a 10 minute walk from the Gallery Place/Chinatown metro station and about 25 minutes walking distance from our DC Inn.
