We are a historic bed and breakfast at 2005 Columbia Road NW in Kalorama, and the house has been here since 1893. You walk to your sessions, come back between them to rest or change, and sleep on a quiet residential street at night. No shuttle, and no waiting for a car in the rain.
A 5-minute walk to the Washington Hilton
The Washington Hilton is at 1919 Connecticut Avenue NW. From our front door it is a 5-minute walk to the Hilton through Kalorama, so you can finish your coffee and still be in your seat for the first session. Forgot a charger? Want a quiet hour before the evening reception? Walk back to your own room, then head out again.
Two other walks matter on a conference trip. Dupont Circle Metro, on the Red Line, is a 10-minute walk from the house. The Omni Shoreham on Calvert Street, which hosts its own conferences, is 0.8 mile away.
For venue maps, session times and badge pickup, use the hotel’s site and your organizer’s pages. They change from meeting to meeting, and the organizer always has the final word.
Why a bed and breakfast instead of the conference hotel
A big conference hotel is busy during a big conference. That is its job. Some people like being in the middle of it. Others would rather end the day somewhere calm. Staying with us is closer to staying with a friend who happens to have 11 spare rooms. You are a guest, not a room number.
- Each of the 11 guest rooms has a private ensuite bathroom and one bed, a double or a queen.
- The lobby has a Keurig with pods, a cookie jar, and a water jug with cups, for the coffee you need before a poster session.
- The building is an 1893 Colonial-style and Venetian Gothic row house, with more character than a hotel corridor.
Breakfast, check-in and luggage
Breakfast depends on the rate you book. A homemade breakfast is included only with the Standard Rate and the 2-day refundable rate. It is served at 8:30, 8:45 or 9 AM, and you reserve your time in advance. Other rates do not include breakfast, so read the rate name before you book. If your first session starts early, plan your morning around that.
Check-in is from 4 PM to 10 PM. If you arrive in the morning and want to go straight to registration, you can leave your bags in the parlor from 8 AM on your check-in date. On your last day, check out, go to the closing session, and pick up your bags by 5 PM. An earlier drop-off or a later pickup can be arranged, as long as it is set up in advance.
