The Council for Opportunity in Education seeks to adapt to an education system currently undergoing pervasive institutional reform. Their 33rd Annual Conference takes place from September 7-10 at the Washington Marriot Wardman Park, just minutes from our DC Inn.
Many of our children are given educational opportunities that wouldn’t have been possible years ago, on account of either social or financial barriers of entry. Today the horizon of progress is ever-widening – though work remains with respect to breaking down barriers to entry and obstacles to student success that plague historically underserved primary school students as well as those at institutions of higher learning.
Overcoming barriers to student achievement requires a mixture of ingenuity and initiative. Accordingly, this year’s conference focuses on vision and action. One important dimension to improving student performance lies in monitoring and evaluating government-funded programs created to assist underserved student groups. Hence, tracking will be a focus of the conference, as will program evaluation, operation planning, and grant compliance and presentation. We applaud the Council’s work on this important subject.
