No Washington DC bed and breakfast understands the importance of food better than us. And because of this, our Washington DC hotel offers an exclusive chef to prepare our delicious courses. Chef Kevin retains the quality of his cooking while also infusing it with local cuisine favorites, European flavors, South American spice, and warm starches every morning to pair with the specials. It’s a lot of work for Chef Kevin, but he enjoys the satisfaction guest have.
What makes us stand out is we push the envelope. Our staff refuse to settle for anything but a clean plate. Our seasonal variety also keeps things cozy. Really, is anything better than pumpkin in the fall, gingerbread during Christmas, fruity muffins in the spring, and everything else we can think of.
Chef Kevin has personally trained our incredibly beautiful innkeepers: Hannah and Meg. He has designed menus for them to execute while on weekend shift. So though these ladies haven’t been to culinary school, their apprenticeship under our Washington DC Inn chef has made them into wonderful bakers.
Expect a high-end selection of savory and sweet each morning. And if, for some reason, you would prefer a particular dish (due to allergies or personal taste) simply inform Hannah, Meg, or Chef Kevin. One thing this staff will not allow is for a guest to leave hungry.
Meet Chief Kevin
Chef Kevin, born in Buffalo, NY, moved to the Washington D.C. area to pursue a career in cooking at the International Culinary Schools at the Art Institute of Washington. After graduating, he worked for Robert Wiedmaier at Wildwood Kitchen, and Mussel Bar Bethesda. He works at The Ritz Carlton in Pentagon City, VA, in the evenings.
“Cooking at the American Guest House has been a fabulous experience. I pull my creative flair from the rich cultural blanket of guests that stay here. Being able to serve a dish that one has never tried before is both enthrilling and terrifying. But as I’ve become a seasoned Washington DC B&B cook, I’ve learned to never settle on dish favorites because it’s comfortable. Breakfast cuisine is fun, but creating a culinary masterpiece is the cherry on top of my work here.” Chef Kevin says.
He also attributes his success here to his grandmother. She taught him how to navigate through a kitchen properly, but also she supported his dreams. It’s wonderful to see that his passion for food goes back to childhood.
Chief Kevin’s travels through Europe gave him a new perspective on what breakfast can be. From this, he likes to take recipes and modify them for the “wow” factor. The best part, too, is never expect the same dish when you stay with us.
Cold weather means ricotta pancakes, pumpkin muffins, French toast, omelets and so much more. There is nothing more delightful than coming to breakfast when it’s cold outside. We always have warm coffee brewing, the oven baking, and the stove frying. It’s a marriage of flavor unlike any other. We make dining-in the biggest trend in the city.
We’ve built a reputation for Washington DC getaways. Whether your business is personal or work related, stay with us and be spoiled. Our relaxing environment helps you to rest and get a great night’s sleep. This is just as important as the food on the table. Sleep is vital to maintaining a healthy life. This is one of our values. That’s why everything we serve is made from scratch. It’s easy to catch Chef Kevin, or the innkeepers, making granola, pastries, fruit platters and more.
