The National Gallery of Art in Washington DC

The National Gallery of Art which is located on the National Mall between 3rd and 7th Streets NW at Constitution Avenue, NW was created in 1937. The initial collection was a gift from art enthusiast Andrew W. Mellon. The year of his death, he promised his collection to the United States. The gallery’s vast collection includes American and European paintings as well as sculptures and various types of media.  End of May, people will  enjoy at the Sculpture Garden (which was erected in 1999) the venue for Jazz in the Garden,  very popular here in the District.

The Gallery is open Monday through Saturday 10:00am to 5:00pm and Sundays from 11:00am to 6:00pm. Admission to the gallery is free. Some exhibitions may require passes. Guided tours are also available.

The gallery is located in proximity to the Judiciary Square metro station (Red line), the National Archives metro station (Green and Yellow lines) and Smithsonian Station (Orange and Blue lines). From our DC Guest House, just ride the 42 bus just down Columbia Road which stops just a block away from the museum!
