Washington DC Conventions

2013 National Model African Union Conference

This year’s Model African Union Conference will be held at Howard University from February 21 to 24, 2013. The conference is intended to serve as a simulation of intra-African diplomatic proceedings surrounding key issues in the region. The event provides university and college students a unique opportunity to understand the social and political dynamics in various African countries. Over 50 universities from across the country will participate in this unique occasion to gain a greater appreciation for the barriers and opportunities that are part of intra-African diplomacy.

If you or your university plan to be a part of this wonderful event, we are currently offering specials at our historical Washington D.C. lodge. In addition, we are conveniently located within walking distance of several embassies that you may want to visit. Each of our rooms is equipped with WiFi, and our lovely staff will make your stay feel like home.

The Indonesian Embassy

The Indonesian Embassy is located at 2020 Massachusetts Avenue, N.W.Washington, D.C. 20036. The building is one of the most beautiful in town.

The Walsh-McLean House is a fabulous Beaux-Arts style, 60-room mansion, which was built in 1902 for rags-to-riches gold miner Thomas F. Walsh. The building was once the social center for Dupont Circle and it was the most expensive private house built to date, at the cost of $835,000 (about $20,000,000 in 2008). The house was purchased by the Indonesian government in 1952 for $335,000.

From gold prospectors to the Red Cross, the Hope Diamond to mysterious ghosts, the mansion hides a lot of history behind his walls…
