16th Annual Welfare Research and Evaluation Conference

From May 29 – 31, 2013, the Omni Shoreman Hotel in Washington DC will serve as the gathering place for poverty researchers, policymakers, and community advocates working to improve the quality of life for our most vulnerable population. Participants at the 16th Annual Welfare Research and Evaluation Conference will have an opportunity to learn, network, and discuss the various topics surrounding the issue of poverty. The event provides a space to foster and develop meaningful approaches to creating economic opportunities for low-income communities.

As you prepare plans to attend this important conference, please keep our Washington DC lodging in mind. Our facility is equipped with Wi-Fi and flat screen tvs, in addition to private bathrooms. League of United Latin American Citizens 16th Annual Legislative Conference

The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) will host its 16th annual Legislative Conference and Awards Gala in Washington DC from February 13-14, 2013.The conference will honor key Hispanic leaders and discuss policy and legislative issues affecting the community. You can view a detailed agenda here.

If you are planning to attend the LULAC Conference and looking for a place to stay, consider staying in our lovely DC accommodations. The conference is being held a little over 2 miles from our Guest House, and is easily accessible by taxi, metro, bus, or foot.

The Marsha Mateyka Gallery, Washington DC

Marsha Perry Mateyka, an art historian, established the Marsha Mateyka Gallery in 1983. The gallery is one of Washington, DC’s leading galleries of contemporary art, including exhibiting painting, sculpture, photography and other paper media. There are currently over 20 artists represented by the gallery. Some of the Marsha Mateyka Gallery’s clients include museums as well as both private and corporate collectors.

The Gallery is located in the DuPont circle neighborhood, which  is near the Q Street exit of the Dupont Circle metro station and 10 minutes away from our Washington DC Inn. The Gallery is open from 11am to 5pm Wednesday through Saturday.

The Newseum, Washington DC

The Newseum serves as a showcase for news stories both old and new. The building contain several levels of galleries holding exhibits on a variety of subjects such as ”The Story of News”, the title gives a way the subject matter of this exhibit. There is an interactive news room for museum-goers to experience as well as temporary collections like the sports illustrated exhibit dedicated to the sports photographer Walter loss.

Newseum ticket prices vary according to age: the price for adult tickets are $21.95(19-64years), $17.95 for seniors (65 years plus), and $12.95 for children children(7-18years), children under 6 years old are admitted for free. They are open 7 days a week from 9am -5pm and close for few holidays.

The Newseum is located on 6th Street, NW and Pennsylvania Avenue, NW. The balcony boasts a view of the US Capitol  and is adjacent to the Smithsonian museums on the National Mall. The closest metro stops are the judiciary square and gallery place metro stops both on the red line.  While visiting the Newseum why not stay at our very reasonably priced Washington DC Inn which is just a 10 minutes metro/subway ride away.
