This past weekend I visited for the first time (after 5 being a DC resident for 5 years) the Theodore Roosevelt Memorial located on a tiny island on the Potomac river. Let me tell you, what an amazing experience it was! This place is a living memorial, with a “real forest” designed to mimic the natural forest that once covered the island, miles of trails through wooded uplands and swampy bottom lands…
By the way, did you know that the term “teddy bear” was brought on by a toy makers labeling of the stuffed animals after a generous act of Theodore Roosevelt sparing a bears life during a sporting event? Ever since millions of children have come to enjoy the animals as a bedtime comfort naming their furry friends, though nothing beats a good old “Teddy” bear to show just how great this president was.
