Established in 1820, The Botanical Gardens are among the oldest in the nation. Completely free to the public, The Conservatory, National Garden and Bartholdi Park are open 365 days a year! Located on The National Mall, close to many Smithsonian museums and next to The Capitol Reflecting Pool, the Botanical Gardens offer a variety of exhibits and displays throughout the year.  The Conservatory includes species from all around the world, and the Garden’s “Savage Plants” exhibit features the popular carnivorous plants exhibit. Want a great Kayaking lesson on the Potomac while visiting Washington DC?

Check out the Potomac Kayaking Company which offers a great in depth introduction to the basics of kayaking.  Courses include the essentials, safety and recovery while kayaking.  For the more experienced kayakers, there is a whitewater course that comes highly recommended for kayaking up the Potomac near Great Falls, MD.  Several of our guests have enjoyed accommodations through this company as part of their sight seeing of DC.

Check out their website for more details and course reservation information.  As a personal kayaker myself, I must agree that there is no better way to see Washington DC then by river.  It’s a great experience the whole family can enjoy and having experienced instructors is a big plus!  Check out their Testimonials page for reviews on the Potomac Kayaking Company!

Here is a video from a kayaker on the Potomac you will enjoy!

The American Guest House Bed and Breakfast appreciates our neighbors in the area for tourism attractions that we may offer our guests.  The Potomac Kayaking Company comes highly rated from our guests as they have enjoyed the experienced instruction of the Potomac Kayaking Company.
