The 2013 Alternative Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo in Washington DC

The 2013 Alternative Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo will be held June 24-27, 2013 at the Walter E. Washington Conference Center in Washington DC. The ACT Expo is one of the largest events featuring alternative fuel and advanced vehicle technologies. In addition to the Exposition hall, participants will have access to some of the latest technologies in the field, and gain valuable networking opportunities.

Metropolitan Washington Restaurant Week, February 4-10, 2013

Studio Gallery, Art gallery

Studio Gallery is located in Dupont Circle in proximity to the Phillip’s Collection. The gallery showcases contemporary art in a variety of media including photography, sculpture and a variety of painting styles.

The gallery is open Wednesday through Saturday with hours varying according to the day. Visitors are encouraged to stop in and speak with the director or the artist of the current exhibit being showcased.

The gallery is accessible by the Dupont Circle metro station, serviced by the red line. Please visit metro’s website for additional travel information.

Christmas in Georgetown Washington, DC

Its Christmas in Georgetown! Located just west of the National Mall is the historic area of Georgetown, DC. Home to some of the oldest buildings, great food and plenty of shops, there is never a dull moment to spend some time here. From December 9th-20th, 2011, Georgetown will host the “12 Days of Merriment”, which is full of holiday promotions, contests and activities.

Getting to Georgetown is fairly simple which is located right of the Foggy Bottom metro station, or a small taxi ride from DuPont Circle.

Oktoberfest 2011: Washington DC

Oktoberfest, a beer festival that runs between 16-18 days long, beginning in late September running through early October. The festival originates in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. Washington, DC has a number of festivals held throughout the city celebrating beer, German food, music and dance. Washingtonians wouldn’t miss their chance to join in on the ”The World’s Largest Fair”. Please see some suggested venues below.

Biergarten Haus: This local Bavarian biergarten is located on the H Street corridor in NE Washington, DC. They will be offering special Oktoberfest drafts and will have live musical performance and food to celebrate the festival. The Biergartenhaus is accessible by metro bus X2 or the 90.

Das Best Oktoberfest: Will be taking place at the National Harbor. The celebration will take place on September 25th -26th. There will be international wines and beers. A home microbrew contest, German food and all sorts of contests. Purchase your tickets on site for $35 for Saturday or $55 for Sunday’s festivities. The National Harbor is accessble my metro bus and metro rail.

Blocktoberfest 2011: A Washignton, DC Oktoberfest music festival. There will be 10 bands featured as well as party areas and activities. You may purchase your tickets in advance online. The music festival takes place on September 24th from 2pm to 10pm, and is accessible by the Navy Yard metro station serviced by the green line.

Public Transportation to Union Station in Washington DC

Here are some public transportation options to get to Union Station from the American Guest House Bed and Breakfast:

BY TAXI:

From the Guest House  is about  3.5 mi and will take 15 minutes with a cab. The estimated fare is $13.26 using the rate in DC, this includes a 15% tip. You can always catch a cab in front of the house on Columbia Road; it’s very easy to get one. Otherwise we can always make a reservation for you.

If you wish to get more information or get a Taxi to go to Union Station, check DC yellow Cab company.

BY METRO/SUBWAY:
The Dupont Circle Metro Station is a 10 minute walk from the guest house. You would take the red line going in the direction of the Glenmont metro station. You will ride the train for 5 stops and reach Union Station within 10 minutes. The fare is $1.85 during off-peak hours (9:30am -2:59pm and 7-midnight, and weekends), and $2.40 during peak hours.  If your luggage is to cumbersome to transport on foot to the metro station, then you might want to take bus 42/43 or H1, these buses stop 3 houses down from the guest house.  The fare is $1.70 and you need to have the exact change ready when boarding the bus. The bus will arrive at the DuPont Circle metro/subway station within 3 to 8 minutes depending on traffic and time of day.

BY BUS:

Just four doors from the Guest House, you have the 42/43 or H1 buses, (these buses stop 3 houses down from the guest house) and you can ride one of these buses up to K street and then you will catch the Circulator bus up to Union Station.  The fare for the 42/43 or H1 is $1.70 and you need to have the exact change ready when boarding the bus. The fare for the Circulator is $1.00. Depending on traffic and time of day with the transfer, it can probably take about 20 minutes to get to Union station.
