16th National Council of Farmer Cooperatives Conference

For eighty-four years, the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives has rallied in support of local and national farmer cooperatives across the United States.  With over 3,000 cooperatives, owned and operated for the mutual benefit of members, the NCFC is one of the largest organizations tirelessly working to promote federal support of co-ops.

From June 10 to June 12, 2013, hundreds of NCFC’s current members will gather at the L’Enfant Plaza Hotel in Washington D.C for the 16th Annual Washington DC Conference.  This event provides participants with the opportunity to engage federal policymakers on relevant issues such as: immigration reform, the 2013 Farm Bill, and the environment.

Independence Day – Celebrate 4th of July 2013 in Washington DC

Don’t miss  Fourth of July in Washington DC! It’s the place to be: there are festivities throughout the day, leading up to a spectacular fireworks display around 9:00pm at the National Mall.

During the morning, Washington, DC’s 4th of July Parade will feature marching bands, military and specialty units, floats, and VIP’s.

During the afternoon, you’ll find many interesting activities taking place on and near the National Mall: the Smithsonian Folklife Festival with music, performances, crafts and cuisine testing.

The National Archives‘ family-friendly programming includes a dramatic reading of the Declaration of Independence and special appearances by costumed historical characters like Ben Franklin and Martha Washington.

The traditional concert will not be held this year due to budget cuts. However, Navy Bands are attempting to schedule performances at other venues on the Mall but the National Symphony Orchestra will perform during the spectacular fireworks show, which begins just after 9 pm. The fireworks are launched from the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool and light up the sky over the Washington Monument.

2013 Organizational Learning, Knowledge and Capabilities

This year, George Washington University will be hosting the 2013 Organizational Learning, Knowledge, and Capabilities Conference from April 25 to 27, 2013.  Members are encouraged to present and discuss their research during this three day event.  Organizers of the event have put together three panel titled, “Transitioning, Transmitting, and Translating Sensemake”; “Knowledge Management”; and “Affective Learning and Valuing.”  Each panel consists of recognized researchers and leading practitioners in their field.  The conference’s Keynote Speaker will be Dr. Barbara Czarniawska.

As you prepare to make plans for this year’s Organizational Learning, Knowledge, and Capabilities Conference – make sure to keep us in mind as your Washington DC accommodation.  Our lovely bed and breakfast in Washington DC is located within a 20 minute bus trip to the George Washington Foggy Bottom campus.  Although Metro service to GWU is available, it is inconvenient transferring from the Red Line to Orange Line.

Whatever your religious affiliation, the National Cathedral is sure to arouse your strongest emotions with its imposing structure, historic and cultural value. The Cathedral’s knowledgeable staff is prepared to offer visitors guided tours, but self-touring is also permitted. Be prepared to catch a wonderful glimpse of Washington DC While touring the Cathedral grounds, whose elevation offers the highest city view.

Guests at our Washington DC accommodations are able to catch the N6 Metro Bus ride at the intersection between Q St. and Massachusetts Avenue. This bus line stops within walking distance of the National Cathedral at Cathedral and Wisconsin (see map below for more details).

2013 Muscular Dystrophy Association Scientific Conference

Earth Month at Union Station Washington DC

In order to foster a public discussion on global warming, the Earth Day Network is sponsoring a month long event at Union Station in Washington DC. Beginning on April 1 and lasting to April 30 2013 ,Washington DC’s Union Station will educate visitors through interactive and environmentally friendly experiences. Visitors will have the opportunity to participate in public discussion panels or watch alternative energy demonstrations. The organizers are also working on a film festival, a green fashion show, and a farmers market.

As one of the busiest transit hubs in the United State, the Union Station also enables countless visitors to learn more about the various projects going on across the country to fight global warming. Given the rapid transformation our climate patterns have undergone, it’s now more important to spearhead a meaningful debate to save our planet for future generations.
