Independence Day – Celebrate 4th of July 2013 in Washington DC

Don’t miss  Fourth of July in Washington DC! It’s the place to be: there are festivities throughout the day, leading up to a spectacular fireworks display around 9:00pm at the National Mall.

During the morning, Washington, DC’s 4th of July Parade will feature marching bands, military and specialty units, floats, and VIP’s.

During the afternoon, you’ll find many interesting activities taking place on and near the National Mall: the Smithsonian Folklife Festival with music, performances, crafts and cuisine testing.

The National Archives‘ family-friendly programming includes a dramatic reading of the Declaration of Independence and special appearances by costumed historical characters like Ben Franklin and Martha Washington.

The traditional concert will not be held this year due to budget cuts. However, Navy Bands are attempting to schedule performances at other venues on the Mall but the National Symphony Orchestra will perform during the spectacular fireworks in Washington DC, which begins just after 9 pm. The fireworks are launched from the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool and light up the sky over the Washington Monument.
