We love eating fresh steamed seafood, Clam Chowders, etc, at this open air fish market located on Maine Avenue at the Waterfront in DC - No eat-in area though. Suggestion made by AmericanGuestHouse innkeeper.

May is a very busy month and sometimes it is hard to find available hotel rooms. Of course the good deals of earlier months are no longer available and you are down to taking what you can get, unless of course you reserved early.  For B&B owners this is good news because many people that otherwise would never stay at a B&B end up taking a chance and once they stay at a B&B they normally become B&B lovers.

If you are planning to rent a car while visiting the Nations Capital, (which isn’t such a good idea due to heavy traffic and lack of parking spaces), then you might want to consider renting a Zip or Flex car.  These cars are parked throughout the city and their rates are not that bad.  There are some cars available pretty close to the American Guest House.  Here are a couple of links so you can compare rates and locations:   http://www.flexcar.com/ and http://www.zipcar.com/dc/find-cars#choose

That is one thing we have plenty of in DC — Taxis drive up and down Columbia Road, you can catch one right in front of the AmericanGuestHouse 24 hours a day, so there is no need to call for one – just waive one down! or you can walk across the street to the Washington Hilton where there is normally a fleet of them awaiting for customers.

Within about 10 minutes walking distance of the AmericanGuestHouse you will find many specialty shops for shoes, clothing, antiques, etc.
If you are looking for a shopping mall I suggest taking the metro to Pentagon City Shopping Mall - the metro stop is inside the mall and it only takes 15 to 20 minutes to ride the metro — there you will find Macy’s, Nordstrom and many other name brand unique stores.
More to come…
