Bistrot du Coin

This is a great place for some good traditional French cuisine.  Located only a few blocks South of our front door, Bistrot du Coin is hailed for its “Traditional” etiquette as well.  Don’t be offended by the cultural indifference, because trust me when I say the food is AMAZING.  When I go over there, it’s like crossing the ocean and being in my South of France around my Grandma’s dinner table. This place treat you to the finest French food in DC near our hotel.  Don’t ask questions about the menu, just order something you won’t be disappointed!

Restaurant Review – P.O.V at Hotel Washington

We wanted to impress some out-of-town friends and decided to take them to lunch at the highly acclaimed rooftop P.O.V., at Hotel Washington.  This place is known for having the best view of the White House and also for being a place to see and be seen.  Unfortunately we arrived past 3pm and missed lunch altogether.  However we wanted to spend some time checking out the place, so we decided to order the appetizers offered.  Price ranged from about $9 to $16 per appetizer.  Unfortunately, I must say we were not impressed, perhaps because after the lunch crowd is gone service goes down a bit? The server was a bit stiff, we missed the welcoming smile, and it took too long to get some of our food delivered, plus we didn’t get all of the flatware so we couldn’t eat our food.  However, there was no reason for the service to be slow since the place was pretty empty at that time of the day.  Another reason, was the strong smell of gas.  We asked the waitress were the smell was coming from and she explained that it had to do with the heating gas lamps being used in a closed in space to warm up the area.  Lastly, the best view of the White House turned out to be no more than a view of its rooftop which during the day is not as impressive.  I would suggest a night visit to Point of View at Hotel W either for dinner or drinks. Washington DC has a beautiful skyline and it looks dreamy at night specially when seen from a roof top.

Looking for late night restaurants in Dupont Circle?

From time to time guests arrive late in the evening at the American Guest House, our charming accommodation in Washington DC. Often they have just flown in from somewhere far away and are quite hungry. Unfortunately, there aren’t a lot of late night restaurants in Dupont Circle, but there is one great spot that’s close to our lovely inn in DC and that’s the Kramerbooks Afterwords Cafe. They are open until from 7am until 1am daily. Not only does their tasty dinner menu run until 12:45, their bar is hopping with orders for coffee and cocktails until close. They have outdoor seating as well as an indoor dining area, which is separate from the bookstore and cafe/bar.

If you’re arriving to town late, you should definitely consider us when you’re deciding where to stay when visiting Washington DC, so we can treat you to a stellar DC breakfast after Kramerbooks Afterwords Cafe takes care of your late night nibble needs.

Ben’s Chili Bowl

Looking for some of the Best Cheap Eats in DC? Why not try Ben’s Chili Bowl on U Street?

Place your order: 1 hot dog with chili cheese fries please! Our guest at our Washington dc inn dupont circle went to Ben’s (as the locals call it), today and  they told me, the line bens chili bowl dc was extremely long and resulted in a 30 minute wait, but every trip to Ben’s is worth the wait. Long lines are to be expected at this dc famous restaurant. Some The list of regulars, both past and present, is a who’s who of well known figures. This includes the likes of Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington and Bill Cosby (who is the only one who can eat for free), and since President Obama’s visit, the place is always busy.

Ben’s Chili Bowl is more than a restaurant, is like a “museum” with a diner decor which is completed with signed celebrity head shots on the wall, it is a place with a lot of history, (open since 1958).

So what are you waiting for? Ben’s Chili Bowl is one place you have to visit during your stay in DC !
