Black Finn Restaurant, Washington DC

If you are visiting DC and doing some tourist sightseeing, the White House must definitely be on your agenda.  A great place to stop in for a bite to eat is the Black Finn Restaurant & Saloon.  I personally love this restaurant for the hospitality, food and reasonable pricing they provide.  “The Heater” is an amazing burger made to your liking and comes with a side of fries.

If you are visiting DC, you have to stop in and experience the finest in Washington DC Dinning at this Saloon Restaurant on “I” street, located only a block and a half from the White House.

The Regent Thai Restaurant , Dupont Circle

The Regent Thai which offers fresh authentic traditional Thai dishes is located at 1910 18th Street on the border of the Adams Morgan and Dupont Circle neighborhoods only 10 minutes walking distance for our lovely Dupont Circle B&B. This a great place to get your Friday or Saturday evening started. After dinner you can head up the hill on 18th Street and check out the night life in Adams Morgan! You should expect to spend $35+ if you are having a dinner with all the trimmings and wine/cocktail. They also offer a lunch menu during the weekdays.

Our favorites include the Green Curry, with your choice of protein served with a medley of Thai vegetable including small “oriental” green eggplant, the pad Thai, with the regent’s sauce  which is a lovely blend of slightly sweet and savory and the sizzling beef platter.

Many of our guests who also have enjoyed dinner or lunch at our favorite Thai restaurant have told us that their homemade ice creams and the Baked Rice Pudding-Thai Style are divine!

For us, no doubt this restaurant is one of the best Thai restaurants in Washington DC!

Hours for Pubs/ Liquor Store Purchases in MD, DC, and VA

Whether you are out on the town, or looking for a quick place to grab your favorite drink, DC is the place help make that difficult.  With hours varying for types of alcohol you may purchase at certain times, and depending on which of the state you may be at in the DMV area, it can get confusing.

District of Columbia: Bars/Restaurants – Can serve alcohol Mon-Thur (8am-2am) Fri-Sat (8am-3am) and Sun (10am-2am).  Liquor Stores/Supermarkets may sell from 9am-10pm 7 days a week but Liquor Stores are closed on Sundays.

Virginia: Bars/Restaurants- 7 days a week from 6am-2am Liquor Stores/Supermarkets Every day from 6-12am.

Note: in both Virginia and Washington DC, Distilled Liquor is only sold at “Liquor stores” and not supermarkets.

Maryland: Maryland is a complicated state where as each county has their own set of laws which vary greatly.  If you are in Maryland, I would recommend to contact a location in the area you plan to visit to get the most updated information.

Have you tried the food at Eatonville in DC?

The U st Corridor is historically famous for their local eatery spots. I came across one restaurant that reminded me of my southern roots. Eatonville is located at 2121 14th st NW, Washington, DC 20010. The atmosphere is low-key, eclectic and inviting where tea comes served in mason jars. The menu is a modern twist on southern classics like “fried green tomatoes”. I recommend the duck salad and a house favorite for all, baked macaroni and cheese. To my delight the duck was perfectly cooked, seasoned well and sliced thick enough to complement the fresh wild lettuce. The mac and cheese was a great addition to the duck. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a good bite to eat on U st.

The Hill Country Barbecue Restaurant

Finally some a good Texan BBQ in Washington DC!  Located in Penn Quarter, the Hill Country serves a wide selection of “authentic” Texas barbecue, ranging from sausages, to beef ribs, and, of course, brisket (amazing by the way).

The all concept is something new in the Nation Capital:  you go to a counter, order meat by weight, and then get your sides cafeteria style at another counter. Waiters buzz around the long picnic tables in the main dining room, re-filling your water and bringing your beers.

The must try it’s their barbecued brisket, which is tender and smoky  and I find the Kreuz sausages to be fairly good and flavorful ( with the barbecue sauce it’s even better!)  The ribs were the weakest part of meat selection: the taste was okay but nothing to write home about. There sides are wonderful, the chili, pinto beans, coleslaw, and cornbread are my favorites.

The service was friendly, but certainly not attentive… its a serve yourself place, so I didn’t expect much, it took our waiter quite a while to come clear away our paper (they wrap the meat in huge pieces of brown paper before they give it to you).

In sum, if you are craving smoked meats, this is where you need to go!
