Corcoran Gallery of Art

Come to DC and explore the Corcoran Gallery of Art which is currently a new and interesting exhibit called “Manifest: Armed.” This exhibit being hosted at the Corcoran Galley of Art is going from August 16 to September 2nd. The exhibit features guns in a new light one that according to the exhibitionist uses guns as a prism to show how information circulates. In a critical time when debates are going on all around us here in DC it is important to visit thought provoking art galleries like this one. The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception

Visit The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Washington, DC

The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception is the largest Roman Catholic Church in the United States and North America.  It is also one of the top ten largest in the world!  Located on the northern side of Washington, DC,the Basilica is not hard to spot and a must if you are visiting the DC area.  Annually there are over a million tourists that visit the Basilica and guided tours are offered daily, 365 days a year.  Free parking is available as well as easy Metro access from Union Station.

The U.S Supreme Court in Washington D.C

Take a tour of the U.S. Supreme Court  while you stay with us at our Washington DC Hotel. Listen to a public lecture every hour on the half-hour Monday to Friday 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m on days when the Court is not sitting, all for free! Seating is first come, first served. Be prepared for security at the entrance and take a look at the visitors etiquette to be well prepared for your visit.

Visitors may also listen in to a live oral argument of a case brought to the court. As indicated by their website, “All oral arguments are open to the public, but seating is limited and on a first-come, first-seated basis. Before a session begins, two lines form on the plaza in front of the building. One is for those who wish to attend an entire argument, and the other, a three-minute line, is for those who wish to observe the Court in session only briefly. Please do not hold a space in either line for others who have not yet arrived.”

Tours may be taken by the visitors, however, there are no guides. For more information, take a look at the Tours section of their website. Visitors are encouraged to take advantage of the exhibits available on display and the Visitor’s Film.

The Theodore Roosevelt Island

For a bit of beauty and outdoor adventure, visit Theodore Roosevelt Island which is dedicated  for our 26th President who was considered an avid outdoorsman, conservationist, naturalist and visionary. There, you can hike (bikes are not permitted on the Island) and visit his memorial. It is located near the Roslyn Metro stop (blue/orange lines, 15 minutes away from our DC Guest House ) at northbound lane of G.W. Pkwy. between Key and Roosevelt bridges. The Island is accessible only by footbridge at the northbound parking lot. Hours of Operation: Open year round between 6am – 10pm. While there, you’ll be near other attractions, such as Glen Echo Park, Mount Vernon Trail, U.S. Marine Corps Memorial and the Arlington House.

2012 Crystal Screen, An Outdoor Film Festival in Crystal City, Arlington

Looking for something to do after the museums close in Washington DC and you feel too tired to walk?  Then sitting down outdoor to watch a good movie may be just what you need.  Crystal Screen, an outdoor Film Festival, is showing a FREE movie every Monday at sundown until August 27th, 2012.  All you’ll need is a blanket to sit on, perhaps a picnic basket, some friends or a date? and you are ready.  But don’t worry, there are plenty of great restaurants and bars in the area if you get hungry.  Enjoy the fun with local residents from Pentagon City, Crystal City, Washington, DC, Alexandria and the surrounding areas.   If you are staying at our Washington DC accommodations, take the Dupont Circle metro (red line) to the Crystal City metro station (yellow and blue lines), the ride will take about  15 to 20 minutes and the location is 1800 South Bell Street, Arlington, VA 22202 (near Crystal City Metro).

The National Museum of American Jewish Military History in Washington DC

The National Museum of American Jewish Military History which is located on 1811 R Street Northwest, just few blocks away from our Washington DC Hotel, is dedicated to the preservation of the significant contributions made by Jewish Americans to the peace and liberty of the United States.

The museum’s mission is to educate the public regarding the role Jewish Americans played  in the armed forces, and the efforts put forth in the battle against anti-Semitism.

The Museum includes two floors of permanent and special DC exhibitions.  In addition to exhibitions, the Museum features the Captain Joshua L. Goldberg Memorial Chapel and the Study Center that serves as site for the museum lecture series and other special programs.The Washington DC Jewish museum is open Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm and is closed on Saturdays and most Jewish holidays.
