They offer a variety of bikes, such as road, cruiser, comfort, performance and tandem. Rentals include helmet, bike tube, pump, lock, city map, and handlebar bag. The prices vary by bike type and the amount of time it’s used. They also offer trailer carriages, so young members of the family can come along for the ride. Electric scooters and wheelchairs are also available as rentals. For some real excitement, take a Monement Night Tour and enjoy the sites as the sun sets. See the links below for more information.

Taxi Meters: Fines Begin June 1

For years Taxi Cab drivers in DC have used and abused the Zone System charges.   The abuse was even greater with tourists since they didn’t know how to fight off such abuses.  But now, finally, thanks to the City’s Mayor the system has been changed to what the rest of the world uses which is the the time-and-distance meters as of May 1.  Beginning June 1, drivers risk a $1,000 fine and a suspended or revoked license for not using a meter. Next time you take a taxi, look for the sticker with the District flag certifying that a meter is in use. Call 311 or visit the DC Taxicab Commission website to file a complaint. Read more.

RENTAL CARS near the American Guest House in DC

Tuesday, October 17th, 2006

If you are planning to rent a car while visiting the Nations Capital, (which isn’t such a good idea due to heavy traffic and lack of parking spaces), then you might want to consider renting a Zip or Flex car.  These cars are parked throughout the city and their rates are not that bad.  There are some cars available pretty close to the American Guest House.  Here are a couple of links so you can compare rates and locations:   http://www.flexcar.com/ and http://www.zipcar.com/dc/find-cars#choose
