16th Annual Welfare Research and Evaluation Conference

From May 29 – 31, 2013, the Omni Shoreman Hotel in Washington DC will serve as the gathering place for poverty researchers, policymakers, and community advocates working to improve the quality of life for our most vulnerable population. Participants at the 16th Annual Welfare Research and Evaluation Conference will have an opportunity to learn, network, and discuss the various topics surrounding the issue of poverty. The event provides a space to foster and develop meaningful approaches to creating economic opportunities for low-income communities.

2013 American Network of Community Options and Resources Conference

2013 Alzheimer’s Association Advocacy Forum

Join leading researchers, healthcare providers, and advocates at this year’s 2013 Alzheimer’s Association Advocacy Forum.  Since 1989, the Alzheimer’s Association Advocacy Forum has served as a space to share personal stories by affected families.  The event brings together people from across the nation to learn about current legislation; celebrate policy achievements, and strengthen advocacy efforts.  The forum will be hosted at the Renaissance Hotel Washington DC Downtown from April 22 to 24, 2013.

23rd Annual Government Procurement Conference

On April 25, 2013 join over three thousand people at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center for the premier small business event – The 23rd Annual Government Procurement Conference.  The goal of the conference is to facilitate partnerships between the Federal Government and small businesses owned by people of color, veterans, and women.  At the conference you’ll have the opportunity to market your product to 500 attendees representing 50 federal, state, and local agencies.  Also, don’t miss the educational sessions where you can learn more about procurements and matchmaking.

2013 Organizational Learning, Knowledge and Capabilities

This year, George Washington University will be hosting the 2013 Organizational Learning, Knowledge, and Capabilities Conference from April 25 to 27, 2013.  Members are encouraged to present and discuss their research during this three day event.  Organizers of the event have put together three panel titled, “Transitioning, Transmitting, and Translating Sensemake”; “Knowledge Management”; and “Affective Learning and Valuing.”  Each panel consists of recognized researchers and leading practitioners in their field.  The conference’s Keynote Speaker will be Dr. Barbara Czarniawska.

As you prepare to make plans for this year’s Organizational Learning, Knowledge, and Capabilities Conference – make sure to keep us in mind as your Washington DC accommodation.  Our lovely bed and breakfast in Washington DC is located within a 20 minute bus trip to the George Washington Foggy Bottom campus.  Although Metro service to GWU is available, it is inconvenient transferring from the Red Line to Orange Line.

Free performances at The Kennedy Center

Did you know that the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts offers free musical performances each and every day of the year? That’s right! At  6 p.m. every evening, 365 days a year, The Kennedy Center offers a free show on its Millenium Stage. With spectacular views of the Potomac, and the Washington Harbor nearby, The Kennedy Center is a delightful place to be in the spring and summertime. While the weather is warm, take in an evening show!

For directions to The Kennedy Center, view their directions and transit instructions here. The nearest metro is Foggy Bottom, and The Kennedy Center offers free shuttle service from the metro.  Our accommodations in Washington DC is less than 2 miles away.

Visiting the National Cathedral

Whatever your religious affiliation, the National Cathedral is sure to arouse your strongest emotions with its imposing structure, historic and cultural value. The Cathedral’s knowledgeable staff is prepared to offer visitors guided tours, but self-touring is also permitted. Be prepared to catch a wonderful glimpse of Washington DC While touring the Cathedral grounds, whose elevation offers the highest city view.

Guests at our Washington DC accommodations are able to catch the N6 Metro Bus ride at the intersection between Q St. and Massachusetts Avenue. This bus line stops within walking distance of the National Cathedral at Cathedral and Wisconsin (see map below for more details).
