Credit Card Processing Fees & PCI Compliance

I would like to thank Janet Wolf from The B&B Team for the excellent article she wrote about credit card processing fees and other issues that we merchants have to constantly deal with, and in most cases, quite blindly because the system is unfair. So, most of us keeping on paying the high fees because the system is not accountable to anyone? If you own a business you can’t afford not to read the article. You might also want to talk with Tom Weiskotten of TrustOne about how to reduce your credit card processing fees. He sounds genuinely fair and honest.

Dom Pedro Aquamarine at Smithsonian Museum of Natural History

For many years the Hope Diamond has been the star of the Smithsonian
National Museum of Natura l History in Washington DC, but now it’s light is not shining as bright since it begun sharing the spot light with Dom Pedro Aquamarine, the largest single piece of cut-gem aquamarine in the world. This magnificent gem was mined in Brazil in the late 1980s and named after its first two Brazilian emperors, Dom Pedro Primeiro and his son, Dom Pedro Segundo.

Restaurant Review – P.O.V at Hotel Washington

We wanted to impress some out-of-town friends and decided to take them to lunch at the highly acclaimed rooftop P.O.V., at Hotel Washington. This place is known for having the best view of the White House and also for being a place to see and be seen. Unfortunately we arrived past 3pm and missed lunch altogether. However we wanted to spend some time checking out the place, so we decided to order the appetizers offered. Price ranged from about $9 to $16 per appetizer. Unfortunately, I must say we were not impressed, perhaps because after the lunch crowd is gone service goes down a bit? The server was a bit stiff, we missed the welcoming smile, and it took too long to get some of our food delivered, plus we didn’t get all of the flatware so we couldn’t eat our food. However, there was no reason for the service to be slow since the place was pretty empty at that time of the day. Another reason, was the strong smell of gas. We asked the waitress were the smell was coming from and she explained that it had to do with the heating gas lamps being used in a closed in space to warm up the area. Lastly, the best view of the White House turned out to be no more than a view of its rooftop which during the day is not as impressive. I would suggest a night visit to Point of View at Hotel W either for dinner or drinks. Washington DC has a beautiful skyline and it looks dreamy at night specially when seen from a roof top.

Low-cost luxury transportation to DC from New York and Philly isn’t too good to be true!

If you want to take a trip from DC to New York City or Philadelphia (or vice versa), but don’t want to spend what it costs to fly or take the train, there are some pretty luxurious alternatives out there. Megabus, Bolt Bus, and DC2NY offer upscale vehicles which are equipped with free WiFi, electrical outlets and clean bathrooms. DC2NY offers one-way tickets for $30 and round-trip tickets for $60.00. Both Megabus and Bolt Bus price their tickets on a sliding scale, so that tickets booked in advance are as little as $2 one-way for the first few to book their seats for a particular trip. After that their prices scale up the fuller the bus gets. On average you’ll pay under $20 for a one-way or under $40 for a round-trip ticket with these two luxury lines. Additionally, a few of these lines even offer buses to Boston for reasonable prices.

For an economy traveler on an economy budget there are a few other bus lines that aren’t quite as luxurious, but still very reliable.

Megabus and Bolt bus depart from Union Station, which is on the Red Metro Line. Conveniently, our lodging is located in Dupont Circle, which is also on the Red Metro Line just a few stops down from Union Station. The DC2NY bus departs from Dupont Circle, just a few minutes from our front door. So when planning your Washington, DC trip itinerary, consider us as your best location to stay in Washington DC.
