DC’s Eastern Market

For those of you who enjoy having farm fresh produce and locally sourced food, turn to DC’s historical Eastern Market as your go-to source. Just around the corner from Capital Hill, vendors from across the region select their freshest vegetables, juiciest fruit, and most lush flowers to bring to the display tables of the South Hall of Eastern Market. Starting at 7 am, locals start strolling through the aisles of bountiful displays of freshly picked produce and sample the in-season fruit. With over 100 vendors, visitors have a wide variety to choose from with merchants selling variations of poultry, baked goods, cheeses, meats, seafood, and more. Eastern Market is just a few Metro stops away from our DC B&B near DuPont Circle

The bustle of Eastern Market kicks into full gear on weekends as it expands with tents lining the surrounding streets with vendors selling homemade arts & crafts, “Around the World” posters, locally roasted coffee, paintings, pottery, and an even wider selection of fresh food and drinks. As you mosey around the market, a variety of live music will fill the streets and provide the perfect ambiance to your Saturday morning stroll.

And now for a bit of history. Eastern Market is one of the most historical sites here in DC as it’s been an active marketplace and community hub since 1873. As Pierre L’Enfant designed and mapped out the city, a meeting place for vendors was an essential piece. Since its opening, Eastern Market has served as a place where locals come to enjoy a community, see friendly faces, and grab their favorite fresh produce.

The market is open from 7 am – 7 pm Tuesday through Friday, 7 am – 6 pm on Saturday, and 9 am to 5 pm on Sundays, and closed on Mondays.
