National Archives Museum in DC

As the nation’s capital, Washington, DC is home to our country’s most valuable and cherished artifacts, many of which can be seen at the National Archives Museum, near our Washington DC Inn. At the National Archives, travel through America’s history from the beginning from the documents that started it the all – the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. See these original documents with the signatures of our founding fathers declaring our right to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”

In addition to these documents, the Bill of Rights, and many other historical documents in our nation’s history are housed throughout their galleries. The original Magna Carta written in 1297 is on display in the David M. Rubenstein Gallery, as one of the Records of Rights exhibits. Another great feature at the National Archives is the William G. McGowan Theatre where they screen various documentaries and films pertinent to American history.

In the Lawrence F. O’Brien Gallery, you can see the many attempts and successes at making additions to our Constitution over the years. You can see how each attempt was structured and which ones made it through successfully to becoming part of our law. After this gallery, head over to the East Rotunda Gallery where there are rotating exhibits on display. Most recently, there was Thurgood Marshall’s historical nomination into the Supreme Court. To end your visit at the National Archives, stroll through the Public Vault where you will see insights into the moments that shaped our history through recordings, letters, and artifacts.

When can I visit? You can visit the National Archives any day of the year (except Thanksgiving Day & Christmas) between 10 am and 5:30 pm. The museum is located at 700 Pennsylvania Ave, NW, about a 15 minute taxi ride away from us. Admission to the museum is always free!
