2017 Disability Policy Seminar

At the Renaissance Washington Hotel, near our Washington DC bed and breakfast, the 2017 Disability Policy Seminar will be advocating for people with intellectual and physical disabilities from March 19th-22nd. With the new administration, agendas are being set and it is crucial that Congress is aware of the key issues regarding people with disabilities. Passionate advocates, self-advocates, experts, and professionals in the field are invited to come together for this conference to learn from in-depth sessions and to speak with members of Congress about the important issues and policies.

What’s on the schedule for 2017 Disability Policy Seminar? This three-day event will consist of informative lectures, engaging activities, and sessions that will equip professionals with leadership and advocacy skills. The seminar will kick-off with a networking breakfast for an opportunity to meet and connect with other attendees who are passionate about advocating for people with disabilities. The rest of the day will be filled with sessions covering a variety of topics including, “Perspectives from Congress and the Administration”, “Education Update”, “Employment and Community Living Developments”, “Understanding Your Congress and How to Tell Your History”, “Protecting Your Civil Rights”, and more.

In addition to these educational sessions, attendees will also get the chance to spend a full day meeting with Congressional leaders on Capitol Hill, including your state representative. This day will allow you to apply the skills you learn earlier in the week and express to these leaders the pressing issues regarding federal programs that affect the disability community. You will be able to talk to them about the issues that are most important to you such as: Medicaid, the Affordable Care Act, Supplemental Security Income, and Social Securit.
