2016 National Council for Community and Education Partnership/GEAR UP Annual Conference

From July 17th through the 20th, there is the 2016 National Council for Community and Education Partnership/GEAR UP Annual Conference that is taking place across the street from our Dupont Circle Bed and Breakfast at the Washington Hilton.  So, you may have heard of NCCEP, but what exactly is GEAR UP, you ask.  It stands for “Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs,” and is essentially a grant program of the U.S. Department of Education that increases the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education by providing States and local community-education partnerships six-to-seven year grants to offer support services to high-poverty, middle and high schools.

The conference registration is set to open on April 25th, 2016, and you can take advantage of cost savings through United Airlines: United Airlines offers discounts of 2% to 10% off published fares for travel to the annual conference in Washington, DC.

Interested in seeing what types of speakers were present at one of their events last year?  Last year, the annual conference took place in San Francisco, CA, and here is a video of Sal Khan, Founder of the Khan Academy who delivered one of the opening addresses.
