Every year the council of independent colleges sponsors the annual College Media Conference. The convention draws attendees from all over the country who are seeking to learn how to expand the reach of their college radio station, expand readership of their student newspaper, or to learn about journalistic practices. This year the convention will feature speakers from around the country. They will discuss topics ranging from editorial practices, television content management, and independent radio station broadcasting. The conference will take place 06/25 – 06/27 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel.

College radio stations face increasing pressure to search for new means of funding, since they don’t advertise by traditional means. There will also be a fundraising component to the conference, instructing attendees on how to raise money by phone drives and other non-profit fundraisers. Generating compelling content can also be difficult for students not knowledgeable in the ins and outs of radio broadcasting or newspaper distribution. The conference will also feature a section on the creation of unique content for college media outlets.
Both innkeepers at our bed and breakfast served in some capacity on their university’s media. One was the editor of the literary magazine at his university. The other was a journalist for her school newspaper. Our DC inn welcomes attendees at this year’s college media convention. We hope you’ll choose to cover our breakfast specials!
