The national convention of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee takes place from June 12th – 15th at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington. Formed in 1980, the ADC’s three principle purposes are to protect the civil rights of American Arabs, to promote mutual understanding between Arab and non-Arabs, and to preserve American Arab cultural heritage. We can look back on a time when American Arabs faced rampant stereotyping by the mass media and in Hollywood action films. In the wake of 9/11, this group has also faced increased profiling, arbitrary detention, and inconveniences that other groups have been able to avoid. The ADC fights to protect the interests of American Arabs in light of these realities.
This year’s conference will address a variety of issues, including but not limited to: advancing the cause of Palestinian statehood, mediating the tension between Israel and Palestine, and addressing the continuing struggle for the civil rights of American Arabs.
American Guest house welcomes persons of all nationalities and religions to our Washington accommodation. We reach out to our American Arab brothers and sisters and hope to see some conference attendees during the three day event. Our breakfast cooks will happily modify any dietary restrictions during the conference.
