Best Neighborhoods For Tourists To Stay When Visiting DC

When I travel I normally like to stay near residential neighborhoods where I can mingle with the local residents. I look for restaurants and places where locals eat and shop because that is where you are going to get the best food and the best deals.  Don’t get caught in the tourist traps.  You pay top $$ and get the worst food and service.   When making your reservations look for safe residential neighborhoods within walking distance to a metro station.  Most B&Bs and Hotels aim to be located near a metro station whenever possible.

Here are some of the best neighborhoods to stay when visiting Washington DC.  Kalorama, where the American Guest House is located is one of the most expensive areas of town.  We are also located just steps from Dupont Circle, Georgetown and Woodley Park.  Bed and breakfasts in general offer the best deals because breakfast and WiFi are included in the rate.  Plus they are more generous than most hotels.   DC is great city not only to visit but also to live because the city center, the residential neighborhoods and the tourist attractions are all near each other.  Nothing is really too far away, especially because of the plentiful public transportation venues available to all.

As always, it doesn’t matter where you are, even if in the best and most upscale area of town, be always aware of your surroundings.

Please let us if you have any questions and we hope to see you at our Washington DC Inn when you visit DC.
