Information about the Washington Monument Earthquake Damage and repair progress

Last year one of our nations famous iconic symbols was greatly damaged by a natural disaster.  An earthquake struck the Virginia area on August 23, 2011 causing damage to our nations capitol in Washington DC.  With a shocking magnitude for this area of 5.8, major cracks scorched the 555 foot Washington Monument with visible cracks and openings on all sides.  The monument has been closed indefinitely for repairs.

We here at the American Guest House Bed and Breakfast hope that our guests can enjoy this national treasure again soon and that the repairs will be completed so that tourist can safety return to visit the monument and enjoy the scenic view of all four horizons in sight.

For up to date information on the progress of the earthquake damage visit the National Parks Service website.  Our location is just over a mile from the national mall or a few metro stops away.  We offer our guests maps, information on the latest events in DC, best ways to get around with suggested methods to complete your desired itinerary plans.  All this with our inclusive complementary warm breakfast.  We are one of the few Washington DC bed and breakfast inn’s that are very close to the National Mall.  Please visit our website for reservation information and availability.
