Washington DC Public Transportation

Visiting DC or Need MetroBus/ Metro Rail Fare Information?

Like many major US Cities, Washington DC has a Public Transportation System like no other.  Known for its fairly clean “no eating and no drinking” policy, the Metro Rails and Bus systems are safe and clean.  Spanning over the DMV area (Disrict of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia), the Metro Rail system is an efficient way of getting to either of the three airports (BWI, IAD, DCA) and all major federal buildings and monuments.

The American Guest House Bed and Breakfast is a Washington DC Hotel that is always giving our guests the best of up-to-date information on DC commuting, events, fine dining and more!  If you are looking to visit Washington DC soon, please visit our website for more reservation information.  We are located right off the Red-Line, DuPont Circle Metro Station.

Even for our tourists and locals whom many have vehicles to commute, the Washington Metropolitan Association Transit Authority (WMATA) has several modes of transportation to accommodate your commute within a 20-mile radius of the White House.

Purchasing a Washington DC Metro Card is always a safe bet for even short term commuter.  You can pick up a card at any CVS for $10 with $5 in fare usage preloaded.  Just tap your pass at any metro rail/bus entrance and access is validated based on your balance.  Only one passenger per card is allowed.  Paper Fares are only permissible on the Metro Rail, not the Metro Bus.

Need to know how much it will cost your from Point A to Point B?  Check out the WMATA website and key in your entry for exact fares based on “peak” and “off-peak” hours.

American Guest House Breakfast Menu Recipes Regional News

Honey Walnut Bread at the American Guest House Bed and Breakfast, Washington DC

Another great recipe to try for breakfast at our lovely Washington DC B&B!

Ingredients:
2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
2/3 cup buttermilk
1 large egg
3/4 honey
1-1/2 cups walnuts, coarsely chopped
1 egg whisked(egg wash)

Method:
1) Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Grease and flour a loaf pan.
2) Place walnuts in small pan over medium heat to toast for 4-5 minutes over medium high heat. Watch carefully and turn often with spatula.
3) Whisk flour, baking powder and salt to combine and sift. Add walnuts to flour mixture.
3) Place milk and egg in a large bowl. Add honey. Whisk to combine. Stir in flour mixture and combine with a wooden spoon until ingredients are combined. Do not over stir the ingredients. Turn into prepared pan.
4) Bake in center of oven until golden, about 45 minutes. Increase oven temperature to 375 degrees; continue baking another 10 to 15 minutes longer. Use a brush and cover loaf with egg wash during the last fifteen minutes. This adds a nice sheen and color to the loaf.
5) Remove from oven. Let sit for 10 minutes. Turn onto a wire rack to cool completely. Wrap in plastic wrap and allow to age overnight.

Makes 1 loaf
