The American Guest House a Washington DC Bed and Breakfast is not only a lovely B&B/Inn with great lodging accommodations, wonderful service and delicious breakfast, but it is also the only Bed and Breakfast Accommodation in Washington DC that offers a B&B Internship Program.
Would you like to become an Innkeeper or perhaps open your own Bed and Breakfast? Then this is the place for you. We want to share the knowledge that we have acquired over the years with aspiring Innkeepers by allowing them to spend time with us and to get involved in the day to day operations of the Inn business. Hands-on experience is the best way to learn how to manage an Inn, and that is what we offer our Interns.
Being an Innkeeper is a very rewarding career, but be prepared to work hard since you must be able to perform all of the tasks from cleaning (this very basic and simple task is being overlooked by many even high end hotels and is such an important part of the lodging business), to baking (we will prepare delicious receipts together) to advertising (this is the life line of the business, you can be the most wonderful host and cook the most delicious breakfast and have the cleanest rooms but guests won’t come unless you learn the ever so changing ways of attracting them to your Inn).
You must be at least 18 years of age, adhere to our business casual dress code, be eager to commit, work and learn. We require a minimum commitment of 15 hours per week and you must be available to work early mornings, evenings and weekends. Because we are a non smoking facility we give preference to working with non smokers. Please be aware this is a non paying internship program.
The American Guest House Bed and Breakfast has three floors and a basement with 12 private rooms, all with private white bathrooms, cable television Flat Screens, hair dryers, iron/board, and soft-all white linens. One of the more regal rooms is 403. This room is great to celebrate Special Occasions such as Honeymoons, Birthdays, Anniversaries and more, because of its stunning canopy bed and its quaint seating area. Of course there is also our daily complimentary delicious hot breakfast with our chef’s Daily Specials, Wi-Fi, a communal computer in the parlor room and coffee, tea, hot chocolate and cookies anytime.
We are minutes away from countless great restaurants and tourist attractions in Washington DC. The White House, Smithsonian Museums, Monuments and several other attractions are only minutes away, either by bus or subway. We are only a 10-minute walk to the DuPont Circle subway station and taxis are plentiful in our area. Georgetown is a mile away and so is Rock Creek Park, Mt. Vernon bicycle trail, C&O canal and other hiking trails. If you would like some fresh produce you may walk down to DuPont’s farmers market and check out the Phillips Gallery and the Textile Museum along the way.
If interested in our internship program, please e-mail a resume to washingtondcinn@hotmail.com
We hope to hear from both prospective innkeepers and guests soon!
