Farragut Square Summer Concerts

If you will be in the vicinity of the White House or the National Geographic museum this summer, you may want to take a walk over to Farragut Square Park. This park is manicured and kept clean by DC’s parks and recreation staff throughout the year. During the week you will find Washingtonians sitting on a bench during their lunch breaks enjoying the sunshine or chatting with a colleague. Saturday mornings Batala drumming troupe practices for their upcoming performances, and this is so much fun to watch. The highlight of the summer in this area are the free summer concerts held from June to July on Wednesdays from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. The music is always rhythmic and fun. I urge you to enjoy the district as the locals do!

Farragut Square  is serviced by both the Farragut North Metro station (red line) and the Farragut West metro station (blue and orange line).  There are also several bus routes with stops adjacent to the park. Please visit metro’s website for travel options.

Washington DC Restaurants

Restaurant Review: Tono Sushi

Many of our guests attend conferences at the Marriott Wardmann Park Hotel and the Omni Shoreham Hotel located in Woodley Park. Just a stones throw away from Adams Morgan, Woodley Park also  has  great restaurants. DC is an extremely health conscious city with a fair share of healthy restaurants. Tono Sushi definitely fits the bill.

Sushi is delicious and low fat! Picky sushi lovers may find it challenging to find an authentic restaurant.  Tono is not extremely trendy, but has a sleek and minimalist decor. They serve standard sushi rolls as wells as some specialty rolls, and typical Japanese fare and accompaniments. Their rolls are always fresh and delicious. Try the yellow fin and Manhattan Roll. The Miso soup and green tea are also a must try.

Tono is located in Woodley Park one block from the Woodley Park metro station on the red line and 15 minute walk from the guest house.

Enjoy!

Washington DC Museums

Historical Society of Washington DC

Founded in 1894, the Historical Society is the only citywide nonprofit organization whose mission is to preserve, present and interpret the history of Washington, D.C. and its people. In 2003, the Historical Society opened its most ambitious project to date, the City Museum. The museum is housed in the Carnegie Library building, located in the center of Mount Vernon Square in Washington.

The museum contained three permanent galleries, a temporary gallery, and a theatrical multimedia show. The goal was to create a 21st century museum that combined new technology and interactivity  making it fun and easy to learn about Washington’s history.

The building is open to the public from Monday through Sunday 10am to 5pm. Visitors are welcome to tour current exhibits and use the society’s library.
