C&O Canal Boat Rides in Georgetown

The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal, more commonly known as the C&O Canal was built as a means of boat transport for Georgetown which was once a tobacco port until the middle of the 19th century.  The Canal is currently a tourist attraction. One hour boat tours are given through the historic neigborhood by guides in period clothing on a boat pulled by donkeys along the canal.

Boat rides are available from April 1st through August 15th, 2011. Boat rides are given five days a week,  Wednesday through Sunday. The rates are as follows: $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and $5 for children. Groups of ten or more should contact the Georgetown Visitor Center prior to their visit. Tickets are otherwise sold on a first come first served basis. Please visit the website for additional information.

Georgetown  is not serviced by metro trains, however, there are shuttles that leave from Dupont Circle. Foggy Bottom metro station is the closest to the Georgetown Visitor’s Center. It is a short ten minute walk away. Please visit metro for additional information.
